Photorealist painting at its best, by Agnieszka Nienartowicz

Portraying women showing fragments of iconic artworks of the past tattooed on their bare backs, and doing it with enough skill to simulate slightly blurred digital photographs is absolutely new; and absolutely startling when accomplished the way this artist does it.

She is Agnieszka Nienartowicz – born in 1991 in Jelenia Góra, in Lower Silesia, Poland. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, where in 2016 she received a Master of Fine Arts. She lives in Poland and, being still so young, she is already a master, worthy of admiration and great praise.

I have selected two very recent works by her –both are oils on canvas that have impressed me deeply. The first one depicts a girl with a Hieronymus Bosch-inspired tattoo (a fragment of the central panel from The Garden of Earthly Delights). The second shows the same blonde model with a different hair-dress (now it’s a braid) and a large portion of the equally famous The Great Wave by Katsushika Hokusai.

  1. Wow! That’s incredible… This is the kind of art that makes me wish I could afford to hang such pieces where I could see them daily. I know, utterly selfish of me.

    1. Oh, no selfishness! Every sensible person, lover of arts and beauty, long for having artworks in their own home 🙂 I for one!!
BTW I was almost sure you would like these paintings, depicting formidable tatoos on them (I was even close to mention you, or at least tag you, in the post, but then I decided not to do it without your permision). 💐 ✨

  2. You sweetheart! You’re allowed to tag me at any time, to any post.

I have to say, I would choose the Hokusai to live with. It’s one of my favorites – must be the water baby in me!

    1. OK about the tagging 🙂
You could get a signed high quality limited reproduction of this painting in actual size (printed on paper) on that girls personal Website. I don’t know the prices (not much, yet, since she is just in the very beginning of her career), but I will mail you the link. If I could afford it, I would purchase some originals from her, or at least some ltd graphic work, because I’m quite sure she will become a hightly priced artist in the near future.)

  3. She’s only got The Garden of Earthly Delights up now, with “Price upon request”. To quote some wise person ” If you have to ask, then you can’t afford it…” Ah well… Perhaps one day? It’s something to look forward to, isn’t it?
